The maturing of social media, a humble bit of advice and the next best thing.

Yup, I know. You use Facebook and Instagram for your business and have a Twitter account that links to your Linked-In account that links to your Google+ account that feeds to your...
I always tell my clients, just because you have a presence on as many social media apps you can possibly sign up for, does NOT mean your company benefits - unless you nurture each account longingly and lovingly.

Each social media app is specific and has it's own etiquette and reach.
As all these social media apps mature and evolve, (can you believe Facebook has been around for 10+ years?!) it is important to understand that now more than ever, you cannot simply push the return button and share the same thing across all platforms. All posts should be carefully tailored and curated for each specific platform. Because in a world of savvy users, your company will easily lose followers if it is perceived as lazy.

So now that we have conquered facebook et al, what's next?
If you have not yet heard of Periscope, you will soon. In a nutshell, it's an app that can be downloaded to your smartphone that enables you to broadcast a live video feed to your followers. It is attached to your twitter account and your followers can opt for a notification letting them know when you are on.
SPECIAL BULLETIN!    BREAKING NEWS!

Once you are done with your broadcast, your video gets stored for 24 hrs where your followers can go back and watch it at their convenience. What's also great is that you can chime in with comments while the live video is being broadcast. And if you like what you are seeing you can show your appreciation by sending ephemeral hearts out by tapping on your device.
Ladies and gentlemen, you now have the ability to interact with live video in real time.  Now that's brilliant! That is a game changer. Unlike anything else out there.  And that's why I am blogging about it. (There is Meerkat of course) but I personally prefer Periscope (better branding)  ;)

People prefer watching exciting, imperfect live events over perfectly edited video. If you are a business owner you should harness that predilection.

Whether you are an interior designer, a hairdresser, an architect, a chef, a builder, a shopkeeper or a yoga instructor, the possibilities are endless.
As humans we are fascinated by other people's professions and lives that are different from our own.
Want to improve your engagement with your clients?  Here is my humble advice to you -  pick a handful of social media. NOT ALL. Learn the etiquette for each one. Learn it well. Post intelligent, original, well timed and appropriate content that informs and entertains. Never sell! You can create an ad for that if you want.
Keep the kittens and inspirational quotes to your personal feed.
And one last thing, if you have to share a link please give us a little bit of insight as to why you are sending us to that link. Have an opinion, otherwise you seem lazy and you are simply regurgitating other people's work.
And nobody likes a regurgitating, lazy friend in their social media feeds.
