We'll take over. No problem.
Fortunately here in LA we have the stadiums and infrastructure and God knows we have the weather. And the last time we hosted the Olympics we actually broke even. Every host city since then, has lost billions.
We'll fix the potholes, spruce up LAX, add a few more UBER drivers and we'll be good to go.
Growing up in Cyprus I remember watching the coverage of the 1984 Olympics on TV and falling in love with not only the beauty of the panoramic views of Los Angeles, but also the branding aspect of the games. I think my love for logos and branding stemmed from those blue, white and red stars three decades ago. I remember the officials' multicolored 80s colored uniforms with the emblazoned logo on them. The hats and t'shirts - everything was so cohesive and so well thought out, making it a visual pleasure to watch on TV.

Standing the test of time. Good design is good design.
A global event such as the Summer Olympics is the ultimate showcase for visual communication.
Here in California we like doing things our way. Our fearless west coast design sensibilities inspire and transform worldwide design. And I feel the proposed brand identity developed by M&C Saatchi LA and Sydney based RE is representative of those "California" design sensibilities.
Very few global cities can abbreviate their name and get away with it.
Los Angeles is definitely one of them. And I am glad to see the designers behind the proposed design took advantage of that. Short and sweet. And those stripes! I can't wait to see the uniforms!
More stripes! Yes please!
So will LA get the gig? I think the IOC (The International Olympic Committee) has had enough of cities not being ready and stressing them out till the night before the opening ceremony. I personally think Rio will be the straw that will break the camel's back... They will want a city that is ready, that has its ducks in order and will actually elevate the profile of the organization.
I am certain Los Angeles is that city and I certainly hope Mr Bach agrees.
