My father's work represented at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2010
My father, Alkis Ioannides, was an award winning architect with a degree from Harvard, who grew up in Australia but lived and worked for most of his professional years on the island country of Cyprus where I was born and where I grew up. His design for the Central Bank of Cyprus was part of the Cypriot participation at the 2010 Biennale Archittetura held in Venice this past November. He was part of a consortium of architects that were recognized for their substantial influence on the architectural landscape of the country. In a collaboration with fellow architect Mikis Zembylas, the building located in the capital city of Nicosia, is considered a landmark and has maintained its integrity throughout the years since it was completed in the 80s. I was so happy to see his work be honored in this way and I hope his work continues to inspire young architects in that part of the world - Christos Joannides
